Executive and Artistic Director, Deertrees Theatre

This could be the perfect summer job for a talented arts administrator wishing to spend 10 weeks in residence at historic Deertrees Theatre (founded 1936) in Harrison, Maine, with the opportunity to work part time remotely for the theatre the remainder of the year.

The historic Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, Maine, is seeking a new Artistic and Executive Director. This is a year-round position which will require residence in Harrison for 10 weeks during the summer performance season and part time from any location the remainder of the year. The theater is operated by the non-profit Deertrees Theatre, Ltd.

Deertrees Theatre was founded as a summer theater by the distinguished New York director and singing coach Enrica Clay Dillon on her estate in Harrison and completed in 1936. Early supporters of the theater included Helen Hayes, Rudy Vallee, and Humphrey Bogart. Well-known New York producer Bela Blau brought famous performers to the stage at Deertrees including Ethyl Barrymore, Edward Everett Horton, Arthur Treacher, and many others. The theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Maine State Register of Historic Landmarks.

Over the decades, the mission of the theater has evolved and we now seek to present concerts in a broad array of musical styles during the summer season from early July to late August. During the 2019 season, about 20 concerts of chamber music, jazz, folk, and rock were presented as well as several locally produced plays.

A position description and other details may be found at our website deertrees- theatre.org or by email to dpercival@deertrees.org. Deadline for applications is November 15, 2020.
