Called “the cradle of chamber music teaching in America”, Kneisel Hall is a distinguished music school and chamber music festival located in the coastal village of Blue Hill, Maine. It seeks a new Executive Director to lead Kneisel Hall’s administrative activities, including all aspects of program operations, fundraising, marketing, and communications. The position requires June, July, and August in Maine, but the balance of work may be conducted remotely.
Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School & Festival is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to manage the organization following the retirement of the current Executive Director, who has held the position for nineteen years.
Kneisel Hall is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, which has been called “the cradle of chamber music teaching in America.” Located in the coastal village of Blue Hill, Maine, Kneisel Hall is an intense and rigorous music school for fifty-one fiercely gifted young artists, which runs as a residential program for seven weeks every summer. It also offers a ten-week summer concert series and serves as a chamber music advocate through many outreach programs. Its mission is to foster the art of chamber music through teaching and performance in an intimate environment steeped in tradition and artistic excellence. Kneisel Hall exists to enrich the artistic skills of the students and the cultural life of the surrounding community at the highest levels of ensemble performance.
The Position:
The Executive Director will be responsible for leading all of Kneisel Hall’s administrative activities, including all aspects of program operations, fundraising, marketing, and communications. Reporting directly to the president of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works in close collaboration with the Artistic Director and is additionally responsible for liaison with key constituencies: students, staff, faculty, donors, and the broader Blue Hill Peninsula community.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight and management of the budget, with close attention to revenues and expenses;
- Mission-critical development work, including fundraising and grant writing;
- Partnership with the Board of Directors to ensure that the organization honors its mission and achieves its strategic goals and objections.
- Supervision of student life and residence halls to ensure a successful and supportive program;
- Scheduling, organizing, and supervision of events both on and off-campus;
- Hiring and supervision of non-teaching staff;
- Oversight of facilities, buildings, and grounds, including maintenance, repairs, and new construction;
- Communications with all constituencies and stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Administrative experience working in an intense environment;
- Experience with financial management, including budgeting and financial reporting
- Experience supervising staff and others;
- Experience working in a collaborative environment; and
- Experience working with a minimum of day-to-day supervision.

Compensation:
Salary and benefits are competitive, with the potential of a summer housing subsidy.
