The Hartt School at the University of Hartford is seeking a new Director for its Community Division. The Hartt School’s Community Division has a 100-year history of providing high-quality training in the performing arts to the surrounding Hartford, Connecticut region. The Hartt School Community Division is a national model for community schools on university campuses and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association of Schools of Dance. Our innovative faculty provide a learning environment that engages, enriches, and educates diverse and aspiring artists from pre-kindergarten to adult. The Community Division offers individual and group instruction; conducts chamber groups and large ensembles; and presents performances, recitals, workshops, and masterclasses to over 2,800 students every year.
We are seeking a collaborative and strategic leader who is passionate about music, dance, and theatre and who shares our belief in the transformative power of the performing arts. Working closely with the Dean of The Hartt School, the Community Division Director will define and implement the strategic mission and will provide artistic and administrative leadership for the Hartt Community Division.
The Community Division Director’s duties include developing fundraising, marketing, and outreach strategies and creating initiatives to improve and enhance programming to engage current and prospective students, parents, and supporters. The Community Division Director will be responsible for overseeing the area directors and will work to increase community awareness and services (including programs for inner-city youth) by establishing, cultivating, and maintaining effective, working relationships and collaborations with performing arts organizations, public and private school program administrators, the greater Hartford community, professional community school organizations, and Hartt Community Division alumni.
